Once a major stop along the Silk Road for caravans, Kashgar, also called Khashi, is now a prosperous town with a population composed of Uighur, Tajik and Kirgiz people and the Han Chinese are in the minority. In the center of Khasgar, near the main shopping network, is the Id Kah Mosque and Square. One should definitely not miss the Sunday animal market in a large field just a thirty-minute walk from the main market. We will also visit the "Abakh Khoja Tomb," the most impressive site in Kashgar. You will also see the tomb of Xiang Fei, a concubine of the Emperor Quinlong. Behind the mosque there is a cemetery where one can see bones poking from the ground.

We can begin this tour in Kathmandu, Lhasa or mainland China depending on your preference. The length of the tour can be altered to accommodate your schedule.

Our sample itinerary below offers a tour that begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa. From Lhasa we travel to Mt. Kailash via Gyantse (the ancient trading center of Tibet) and Shigatse (the second largest city of Tibet). We make the 3-day circumambulation around the holy Mt. Kailash and then continue onward to Khasgar via Tirthpuri, Tholing, Shiquanhe and Yecheng.
