We arrange travel permit from Lhasa in advance before your arrival with the help of your passport copies and also made tour arrangements safe and confirm. After your arrival in Kathmandu, you have to fill up a visa form for the visa application and provide us your passport plus one pp size color photo, your presence in Embassy is not required. We can obtain visa by 5 working days (normal process) or by single day as well (urgent process). Visa working days are Monday, Wednesday & Friday so you have to arrive in Kathmandu a day advance for visa process. Still being strict chinese policy by the government tourist has to follow some bureaucratic formalities  as here under:

1. You MUST be accompanied by a tour guide while traveling in Tibet. He/she will provide assistance in dealing with the Chinese authorities at checkpoints en route.

2. Tour itinerary and the places you plan to visit in Tibet MUST be finalized in advance and submitted in writing to the Chinese authorities with your application for a travel permit. According to the places mentioned in the itinerary, we must obtain a travel permit from the Tibet Tourism Bureau (Lhasa).

3. Since there is no public transportation available from Zhang-Mu to Lhasa, we MUST rent a Land Cruiser / Jeep / Bus depending on the group size. The cost will be shared equally amongst the group members. The means the more people there are in the tour the cheaper the price.

4. You are NOT allowed to travel in Tibet with an individual Chinese visa via Nepal (from mainland China it is possible); you must obtain a special visa for Tibet which will only be issued by the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. After Tibet, if you would like to travel to mainland China, this visa will allow you TO ENTER but once you are in mainland China this visa will need to be replaced with an individual Chinese visa. The normal process takes 5 working days and costs US$50. If your time is limited we can obtain the visa in a more timely manner by paying an express charge. The visa section of the Chinese Embassy is only open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 09:30 am till 11:30 am. [U.S. citizens please note that the costs for your visas will be higher than those quoted on this page.]

The Trekkers' Society, as part of all tours to Tibet, fulfills the above requirements for our clients. Depending on your visa needs, there may be additional costs to your tour. We will advise you of these additions prior to their being paid. Please understand that the regulations for entering Tibet are constantly changing and thus some flexibility is necessary in regards to costs and schedules.
